Creating Knowledge in Yoyogi Park
So many assignments in my major require writing, centering the written language as (the most) valuable knowledge. Sometimes, I think that we place too much value in writing and forget that knowledge can also exist in other forms, such as in art, creation, the actual act of doing and experiencing something. I really enjoyed having a couple of hours in Yoyogi Park to just sit, observe, and draw what was happening around me. This act of slowing down, after a busy schedule in Tokyo, was both an act of rest and knowledge creation. An exercise as simple as this made me reflect on how, back in Seattle, I hardly ever just sit within nature, breathe, and create. Now, I want to bring this practice back with me and use it to engage with and experience the space and people around me in a different way. Instead of thinking of knowledge as an assignment that I need to do, how can I re-imagine it as an experiential act of creation, rest, and just being?
